Pilots

For our Pilots, sitting in the cockpit is the result of years of learning, experience and commitment. We often get asked how to gain experience early, from both graduate and apprentice level, and children still at school. Here’s what our pilots said:

Chloe, Captain

"Study what you love, not what you think you need to. This is especially for those that are still at school; I am often asked what subjects are best to take, to best set themselves up to become a Pilot. Secondly, the stereotypical idea of a Pilot being great at Maths and Physics is false - there are those of us that didn't go to University, that have had one, or even multiple jobs previously."

"Everyone’s journey looks different. Despite joining the cadets and flying in a Hawk – which was so exhilarating - I realised the forces were not for me and turned to a Paediatric Nursing degree. A few years later, I saw an opportunity to get a cadetship with British Airways. I didn't have high expectations but if you don't try then you won't know. I had a go and here I am today as a Captain."

Cabin Crew

Our Cabin Crew deliver exceptional service across the globe. It’s a role that offers variety and opportunity, but also requires commitment, flexibility and an understanding of the lifestyle that comes with it. Here’s what our Cabin Crew want you to know.

Dan, Cabin Crew

"Lots of Cabin Crew at British Airways balance other interests, hobbies or family commitments outside of flying. However, we work on a shift basis, with rosters published monthly, and it can be difficult to guarantee certain days off. I’ve worked across more time zones than I can count, which can impact energy levels and requires careful planning – but for me, making people smile makes it all worthwhile."

"You don’t need previous aviation experience to become Cabin Crew. People join from a wide range of backgrounds, age, and career paths bringing different skills and perspectives, that’s what makes us unique. It’s a role built around people. The focus is on your attitude, your ability to work with others, and your commitment to delivering memorable experience for every customer."

Engineering

Our Engineering teams work across a wide range of specialist roles including Production, Supply Chain or Planning. You'll make sure we have the right inventory, help us prioritise health and safety, or maintain our fleet, and so much more. Here’s what our Engineering colleagues want to share.

"My career journey at British Airways has taken a rewarding path; I've worked across Operations and Recruitment, and returned to the company after a six month career break. The opportunity to join Engineering was not planned, but quickly became an example of how you can thrive outside your comfort zone. "One thing that surprises you is how our work at Head Office has a direct impact on the airline. "British Airways shines a great focus on our colleague experience, which means there are always opportunities to learn and grow. I first joined as a temporary HR Administrator, but working alongside HR Business Partners and senior leaders enabled me to get involved in strategic projects.
