Shaping aviation: British Airways apprentices visit Downing Street
Our apprentices are inspiring tomorrow’s talent – bringing the buzz of a career in aviation to Downing Street and beyond. This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re shining a spotlight on the brilliant apprentices who are shaping the future of British Airways and inspiring the next generation, showing what’s possible when you start your career with us.
We were proud to host 50 GCSE students at Downing Street, where they had the chance to take to the skies in our mobile flight simulator, meet some of our apprentices, and explore what a career in aviation could look like.
Our apprentices Morgan Capaldi, Sofia Bruno and Charles Francis shared their experiences of life at British Airways with the students.
Reflecting on the evening, Morgan said: “It was a real honour to represent British Airways and showcase the incredible opportunities we offer. Visiting 10 Downing Street was an experience I’ll always be grateful for.”
For many of our apprentices, an experience just like this was the moment they realised “I could do that.”
Across the business from Ground Operations and Customer Care to Data Science, Business, and our Aspiring Leader pathways, our apprentices all share one thing: curiosity. Some joined because aviation runs in the family, others because they love helping people or wanted a degree-alternative that offered real-world experience from day one.
An apprenticeship at British Airways offers a degree-alternative pathway where you can earn while you learn, gain real responsibility from day one, and build a long-term career in aviation.
Their stories show just how transformative an apprenticeship can be. Charlotte Kirkham helped a New York flight depart 10 minutes early in her first week on the ramp. Emily Taylor travelled to Cape Town to see our Flying Start projects in action (British Airways’ global charity partnership). Jasmine Agyei helped deliver communications sent to more than eight million customers. Amy Mallion grew the confidence to handle challenging customer conversations with ease. Dante Senior discovered the power of communicating data in a way that drives decisions.
Along the way, they’ve gained skills they never expected, from emotional intelligence and resilience to problem‑solving, time management and the confidence to speak up, collaborate and lead.
Their advice to future apprentices is simple:
Be curious. Say yes to opportunities. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. And try the things that feel a little outside your comfort zone – that’s where most of the magic happens.
Applications for our 2027 Apprenticeships open this autumn. If you’re ready to build your future with British Airways, create a job alert to be the first to hear when roles go live.
