Our graduate programmes, business placements and summer internships offer a chance to join a dynamic and diverse team that’s playing a lead role in the future of flying.

Whatever you’re studying, we’ll have a programme that’s right for you. To get your career off to a flying start, you’ll need to bring passion, and have the desire to make a difference.

Discover BA

Duration: 1-3 days depending on programme
Location: London Heathrow
Requirements: First- and Second-year university students
Salary: Voluntary opportunity

You have a choice out of four Discover BA programmes including; Business Placement, Engineering Placement, Black Heritage Futures, or Future Pathways, to gain a unique introduction to life at British Airways and the wider aviation industry. During the programme you’ll have the chance to connect with our teams, ask questions, and start building a professional network to support your future career.

Summer Internship

Summer Internship

Duration: 10-Weeks
Location: London Heathrow
Requirement: First or second year student when completing the internship. Minimum predicted 2:2 degree, or equivalent in any subject.
Salary: £24,200 Pro Rata

A summer-long scheme for students, from any degree discipline, tailored to your career ambitions, strengths, and areas of development. This internship provides a variety of placements in our head office and more, where you’ll work alongside experienced colleagues to complete projects, business as usual tasks and activities that make a real difference to our business. We’re interested in different perspectives and viewpoints, so be sure to bring fresh thinking and new ideas.

Business Placements

Future Leader Business Placement 

Duration: 11-Months
Location: London Heathrow
Requirements: Second-year student for third-year Industrial Placement, sandwich degree
Salary: £26,000 Pro Rata

An 11-month placement giving you through exposure to different business areas across the airline, and involvement in a variety of significant projects. Your placement will refine your business skills and commercial thinking - a rare opportunity to impact our business performance. Which live projects you work on is very much based on your interests and the skills you bring with you.

Engineering Waled Business Placement

Engineering Wales Business Placement

Duration: 11-Months
Location: British Airways Engineering Wales, Barry, Cardiff
Requirements: Second-year student for third-year Industrial Placement, sandwich degree.
Salary: £23,875 Pro Rata

During this 11-month business placement, you’ll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, professional environment. This is a flexible and dynamic role to suit your strengths and interests, designed to help you develop strong business acumen, and refine your professional etiquette in a real-world setting. We’ll encourage you to challenge existing ways of working to help us operate smarter, faster, and more efficiently.

Engineering Technical

Engineering Technical

Duration: 2 Years
Location: London Heathrow
Requirements: Minimum 2:2 degree or equivalent, in a discipline involving mechanical or aeronautical engineering, achieved or expected.
Salary: £35,200

You’ll be at the heart of ensuring our aircraft are safe and reliable, tackling a mix of new and old technology for a fleet of over 250 aircraft. You could be influencing the roll out of new business class seats; inspecting a new aircraft after delivery; or being part of our largest cabin design for the new Boeing 777-X. Your technical knowledge will drive key business decisions and your projects will deliver reliable aircraft that is leading edge to keep our aircraft flying safely for longer.

Engineering Planning and Supply Chain

Engineering Planning and Supply Chain

Duration: 2 Years
Location: London Heathrow
Requirements: Minimum 2:2 degree or equivalent, in any subject, either achieved or expected.
Salary: £33,000

Through a series of placements, you’ll get under the skin of the strategic planning that makes our engineering function run smoothly. With our impressive large fleet of over 250 aircraft, you’ll gain a breadth of exposure to our incredible operation, challenged to manage high volumes of suppliers, from around the world. You could be organising the maintenance schedules for both our short haul and long haul aircraft; developing the long term strategy of maintenance considering efficiency, cost, time and quality of how we do things; or delivering projects around which aircraft we are entering and exiting in the business.
