The role:  Storage & Distribution Supervisor - British Airways Engineering

Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts.

Storage and Distribution is vital to BA Engineering, keeping materials moving through our logistics network to support aircraft maintenance. Based in a large Heathrow warehouse, the team manages a wide range of aircraft parts, ensuring the right items are available to support maintenance and operational performance of our world-class fleet.

We are looking for a driven Operational Supervisor to lead and inspire warehouse teams to keep materials compliant, visible and moving, from inspection and receipting through to distribution. You will plan shift activity and coordinate your team to keep the operation on track, with strong process adherence, data accuracy and attention to detail being key.

In a rapidly changing environment, every second matters! Whether supporting planned maintenance, overseas grounded aircraft, or on-time departures at Heathrow, your team will help keep the operation moving.  

Customer focus, safety and adherence to regulatory compliance are vital in everything we do. Working collaboratively with teams across the business, you will help deliver a reliable service ensuring Aircraft Engineers receive the right parts and tools at the right time.

As a supervisor, you will be a visible people leader, responsible for the health, safety, wellbeing and development of up to 40 colleagues, creating a positive environment where people feel supported, valued and able to grow.

What you’ll do:

  • Drive and maintain high storage standards across the warehouse/stores, ensuring compliance with industry best practice.
  • Monitor and react to the day-to-day operational performance of the team, re-allocating resources, as required, to ensure the timely delivery of the customers’ requirements.
  • Manage effectiveness of the team in accordance with BA policies and procedures, including absence and performance management.
  • Coach, lead, manage and develop teams.
  • Manage and maintain adequate daily resource levels to meet business needs.
  • Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of the team and drive a health & safety culture.
  • Actively manage and develop team members.
  • Deliver regular team briefs with confidence.
  • Manage team mandatory training & local establishment documents.
  • Lead in continuous improvement activities to reduce waste in the business.
  • Deputise for the Operations Manager as required.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Effective, clear and articulate verbal & written communication skills.
  • Strong team management skills.
  • Able to coach and develop others effectively.
  • Can make tough decisions and think of innovative solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret spreadsheets and performance data.
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements to maintain a safe, compliant working environment.
  • Customer-focused with strong commercial awareness to effectively manage supply and demand.
  • Experienced in the use of the warehousing module of SAP - (desirable).
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift pattern - (essential).

Your experience:

  • Level 2 Qualifications (or equivalent) including Maths and English - (essential).
  • Experienced in people and team leadership skills - (essential).
  • Experienced in stores/warehouse processes and procedures - (essential).
  • Able to obtain an Airside Pass - (essential).
  • Vocational (NVQ) Stores and or Leadership qualifications - (desirable).
  • Full UK DVLA Driving Licence, category B for manual transmission (minimum of 12 months driving experience with a full licence) - (desirable).
  • Able to obtain an Airside driving permit - (desirable).
