The role:

Risk and Investigation Manager

This is an exciting opportunity to join the British Airways Corporate Safety, Security and CAMO Directorate as an Investigation and Risk Manager. The role is instrumental in delivering the vision of world class risk management by proactively managing risk as well as performing complex effective investigations influencing change across the organisation.

What you’ll do:

The Risk Manager and Investigation plays a key role in maintaining and enhancing safety performance across British Airways. You will lead complex safety investigations, provide independent challenge and oversight, and support the identification, assessment and management of strategic and operational risks. Using a systems-based approach, you will identify underlying causes, drive organisational learning and influence meaningful improvements to processes, controls and ways of working. Working closely with senior leaders and operational teams, you will provide expert advice, assurance and insight to support effective decision making, regulatory compliance and continual improvement across the business.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Good understanding of the principles involved with Safety investigations including system-based thinking
  • Good understanding of aviation safety and security management systems, operational procedures and regulatory requirements within a complex, safety-critical environment.
  • Strong influencing and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Directorates in a regulated environment. 
  • Ability to lead a team in the investigation of incidents and accidents.
  • Working knowledge of UK, EU and US safety  regulations.
  • Experience applying structured investigation methodologies and translating findings into effective corrective and preventative actions.
  • Experience using safety reporting, occurrence management and risk management systems.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the principles of occupational and aviation safety management. 
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airside identity card
  • Ability to obtain and maintain airside driving permit

Your experience:

  • Recognised investigation course training (essential)
  • Recognised Health & Safety qualification (desirable)
  • Recognised Human Factors qualification (desirable)
  • Experience in cross and multi-functional working.
  • Experience working across departments and external organisations/regulators
  • Experience promoting and supporting a positive reporting culture, Just Culture principles and proactive safety management. 
  • Participation in corporate response to accidents and serious incidents.
