The role: Simulator Engineering Duty Team Leader

British Airways operate a fleet of full-flight and fixed-base simulators used for recurrent and conversion pilot training, the devices are maintained by the Simulator Engineering department.

Within Flight Operations, there is an opportunity to join the engineering team as a Simulator Engineering Duty Team Leader. The role is based at London Heathrow maintenance base Technical Block A (TBA).

The job holder will manage a team of operational engineers who maintain and support the simulator fleet with day to day coverage on a 24/7 shift basis, in compliance with EASA and CAA regulatory requirements.

As a specialist in hardware and the operation of software procedures they contribute to the technical and operational capabilities of the simulator fleet strategy, balancing technical solutions versus cost and escalates proposed solutions to the Simulator Engineering Manager for consideration.

Job Purpose

  • Manage a team to ensure a safe working environment compliant with Health & Safety legislation where the team deliver, maintain and support flight training devices
  • Responsible for monitoring defects, identifying obsolescence and ensuring the required fidelity of Flight Training as regulated by CS-FSTD(A) they will also manage the implementation of corrective actions and modifications to BA’s fleet of full flight/fixed base simulators
  • Leads technical fault investigation and correction
  • Delivers serviceable simulators with over 99.5% availability to the BAFT customer base with improving training hours per fault and timely defect clearance in accordance with the BAFT Quality System
  • Good communication and team-working skills with the ability to train and mentor colleagues
  • Understanding of the regulatory authority approval process for flight simulators
  • Experience in managing a team in a regulatory, safety critical environment
  • A thorough understanding of all simulator systems and how they interact is essential

This is a shift role that covers both day and night working (4 on 4 off pattern)
