A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Aeromedical Examiner (AME)
British Airways Health Services

Location: Heathrow (Waterside Health Centre)
Contract: Part-time 20%-40% (approximately 1-2 days per week, flexible)

About the role:

Safety starts here. British Airways Health Services plays a critical role in keeping our flying community fit to fly, ensuring the highest standards of medical safety for our pilots and cabin crew. Based at our purpose-built Waterside Health Centre at Heathrow, the team delivers aviation medical services that directly support safe, compliant, and reliable flight operations across the airline.

As a sessional Aeromedical Examiner (AME), you’ll join an established AME group practice with strong clinical, administrative, and governance support. This is an opportunity to contribute to a safety-critical function within one of the world’s most recognised airlines, while benefiting from genuine flexibility to fit alongside your existing clinical practice.

What you’ll do:

  • Undertake UK CAA Class 1 pilot/Class 2 Cabin Crew medical examinations in line with regulatory requirement
  • Complete associated aeromedical casework and assessments
  • Conduct initial cabin crew medical examinations
  • Work collaboratively within the AME group practice and wider British Airways Health Services team
  • Maintain accurate, timely medical records in line with clinical governance standards
  • Provide trusted medical input that supports the safety and wellbeing of our aviation community

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

You’ll bring a strong safety-first mindset, underpinned by sound clinical judgement and confidence operating in a highly regulated, safety-critical aviation environment. You’ll communicate clearly and professionally, building rapport and trust with aircrew and colleagues, while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality. A collaborative and detail-oriented approach, commitment to clinical governance, and the flexibility and reliability needed to succeed in a sessional role will be key to making an impact in this position.

Your experience:

  • Full GMC registration with a current UK licence to practise
  • Broad post-registration clinical experience
  • UK CAA authorisation as an Aeromedical Examiner (Class 1 preferred/Class 2 considered)
  • Recognised training in aviation medicine
  • Occupational health experience is desirable but not essential
