A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Learning Design Lead

We’re on a mission to create memorable, impactful learning experiences for every colleague across our organisation. As a Learning Design Lead at British Airways, you’ll play a crucial role in this, leading the design and implementation of new or significantly refreshed learning programmes. Working as part of a supportive team, you’ll ensure our learning products are of outstanding quality, consistently reflect the BA brand, and comply with service, regulatory and mandatory requirements. You’ll collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the business and use your creativity and problem-solving skills to support our strategic goals.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design and implementation of new or significantly changed learning programmes, ensuring clear objectives and measurable outcomes.
  • Conduct and finalise comprehensive Learning Discovery (Needs Analysis), building on work initiated by Learning Business Managers.
  • Develop recommendations for learning solutions that align with business priorities and support BA’s strategic direction.
  • Project manage the design, development, and implementation of learning solutions using established processes and templates.
  • Collaborate with training delivery teams to interpret learning outcomes and make informed design decisions.
  • Coordinate and manage contributions from subject matter experts (SMEs) and third-party suppliers, ensuring timely and high-quality content development.
  • Lead cross-functional project teams through the end-to-end design and development process.
  • Partner with Quality & Compliance teams to ensure all learning meets internal policies, external regulations, and industry standards.
  • Work closely with Learning Content Leads to ensure adherence to design processes and quality criteria.
  • Oversee the seamless rollout of new programmes, including facilitating ‘train the trainer’ sessions and ensuring smooth handover to Learning Content Leads for ongoing management.
  • Act as a role model for learning best practices, leveraging internal insights and external trends to drive continuous improvement and innovation.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

You’ll role model our BA leadership behaviours and values, alongside a passion for learning and making a meaningful impact on others’ skills, knowledge, and behaviours. Adaptable and resilient, you’ll thrive in fast‑moving, changing environments and be comfortable with ambiguity. You’ll have strong leadership skills and be able to communicate with clarity to build trust and influence. You’ll champion inclusivity and have the ability to build rapport with people from diverse backgrounds.

Your experience:

  • End-to-end learning and development experience, with a strong background in blended learning design, development, and innovation (essential).
  • Experience in innovative digital learning solutions (eLearning, virtual classrooms, micro and macro learning) (desirable).
  • Proven track record in training design/content management.
  • Experience in supplier management and delivery of projects (desirable).

What we offer:

We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It’s one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.

From the day you join us, you’ll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You’ll also receive up to 30 discounted ‘Hotline’ airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.

At British Airways you’ll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.

We never stand still, and we don’t expect our people to either.

Inclusion & Diversity

At British Airways we all have a part to play in creating an inclusive place to work. Diverse representation among our people is really important to us and we recognise that all our colleagues are uniquely different and bring their own originality, creativity and identity to work.

Inclusion and diversity is a key driver of innovation and we’re committed to creating a culture where everyone feels that they can be themselves.
