A dynamic leadership role responsible for delivering engineering operations across Eastern and Southern Europe in a fast-paced operational environment. Success in this role requires strong communication, relationship-building, and cultural awareness to effectively collaborate with diverse teams, both remotely and in person. An adaptable and flexible mindset is required to ensure the delivery of a safe operation while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
The role:
Area Maintenance Manager – (Middle East & Africa – Based at LHR)
To manage a number of Line Stations within the EMEAA region (BA Manned or Supplier Managed) – This includes strategic management & tactical execution to all agree performance indicators. (Delivery, cost. H&S, People & culture, customer, supplier management & Continuous Improvement.
Provides effective technical leadership of maintenance colleagues and maintenance supervision, to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company requirements and procedures. Works collaboratively with local management, control centres, quality, planning and technical departments to achieve required quality and cost targets, alongside the delivery of maintenance.
What you’ll do:
- Provide operational leadership for line stations within the assigned Line Maintenance (LM) area.
- Ensure the BA Line Maintenance operation for stations/area are compliant with BA, Customer, UK CAA, EASA, NAA and/or FAA standards.
- Ensure the required safety standards are consistently met or exceeded.
- Manage the stations/area/suppliers to deliver operational, safety, quality and financial targets.
- Support AOG events by liaising with key internal/external stakeholders
- Negotiate local TU agreements as appointed by the LM Leadership Team.
- Promote effective colleague/supplier engagement, communication, development and training to support BA and Customer operations.
- Performance management of BA teams, colleagues and suppliers
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
- Have the ability to understand the BA business and operation and able to develop plans appropriate to deliver against the business requirements.
- Analytical skills to understands budgetary requirements and financial trends.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to explain, lead and deliver change.
- Strong people/supplier management skills at all levels.
- Thorough understanding of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
- Must be able to undertake regular travel to support the assigned area.
Occasional travel outside the assigned area.
Your experience:
- Strong familiarity with UK CAA / EASA / NAA regulations. (Essential)
- Experience of managing a large engineering team. (Desirable)
- Detailed knowledge of aircraft maintenance processes and procedures. (Essential)
- Knowledgeable in H&S legislation within assigned area.
- Good written and spoken English (Essential)
- Minimum 5 years verifiable experience in commercial aviation maintenance. (Essential)
- Ability to hold airport restricted zone access. (Essential)
- Proven managerial experience in a unionised environment. (Desirable)
- Aircraft Maintenance license or appropriate technical qualification (desirable).
- Business qualification (desirable).
