Earlier this year, we expanded our maintenance capability with the opening of British Airways Engineering Gatwick. We’re now looking to build on the strong foundation established by our talented team there and further develop the site to include Winter Airbus Heavy Maintenance operations within this impressive facility.

Are you a skilled technician looking for a new challenge in a dynamic industry? British Airways is offering an exciting opportunity to transfer your mechanical expertise into the world of aviation. We will provide all the specialist training you need to become a qualified Aircraft Mechanic.
The Role: Aircraft Mechanic (BAEG)
As part of our maintenance team, you will carry out scheduled and unscheduled mechanical tasks on aircraft and components. Working under supervision, you will perform inspections and repairs to ensure our aircraft meet the highest safety and performance standards. If you have worked in automotive, rail, marine, or industrial maintenance, your skills are highly transferable and we will support you every step of the way.
What you will do:
- Complete maintenance tasks on aircraft and components under supervision, meeting all quality standards and time requirements
- Maintain a safe working environment through strict adherence to safety protocols and housekeeping standards
- Sign off completed work within your approval scope
- Occasionally operate and drive various vehicles, including mechanical handling equipment, lifting equipment, and elevated work platforms (within permit limitations)
- Actively identify and suggest improvements to work tasks, processes, and environment
- Support the delivery of BAEG objectives
- Work in confined spaces as required (such as fuel tanks)
What you will bring to BAEG
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proven hand skills
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and maintenance needs
- Uncompromising commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
- Self-motivation and initiative to work efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Basic problem-solving skills to troubleshoot mechanical issues
Your Experience:
- Completion of a recognised Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification (essential)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and maintenance manuals
- Ability to obtain and maintain airport restricted zone access
- Experience working in technical environments requiring precision and attention to detail
- Computer literacy with experience using technical documentation systems
Training and Development we can offer:
- We will provide a training program designed to help you transition into the aviation industry. This will introduce key aviation systems, practical differences, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. You will gain the foundational knowledge and skills needed to work on aircraft under supervision and progress towards your first approval
- Our specialist technical training facility at Heathrow is the venue for all our type course training
- We offer a wide range of industry leading Part-147 / Part-145 training, which includes the latest Aircraft types, technological classrooms and simulators
- Access to a suite of personal and developmental professional training through our Global Learning Academy at Heathrow

- Full-time role operating on a seasonal work pattern, typically 47.5 hours per week in winter and 12 hours per month in summer.
