The role:
Lead Network Engineer – Network Tools & Automation
You’ll be part of Digital – IT Operations, responsible for the network monitoring and automation platforms that underpin network reliability, performance and operational efficiency across British Airways. This team plays a critical role in ensuring our network services remain resilient, observable and scalable through effective tooling, automation and modern engineering practices.
What you’ll do:
- Take ownership of network monitoring and automation tooling, including ThousandEyes, Catalyst Center, DX NetOps and NetBrain
- Create and maintain documentation for network monitoring and automation tooling
- Develop and utilise automation workflows to support configuration management, troubleshooting and reporting
- Drive continuous knowledge sharing to ensure the wider team fully utilises the tools available
- Ensure tooling and automation meets wider organisational standards and security policies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and drive network improvements
- Advocate for using automation to drive efficiencies within the team
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
- Strong technical competence in networking
- Strong understanding of network automation
- Strong organisational, communication and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work streams at once while ensuring prioritisation based on team and business goals
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyse information effectively, and develop alternative solutions where appropriate
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with teams dispersed throughout the globe
- Ability to run knowledge transfer sessions and mentor junior members of the team
- Flexible and agile approach, always ready to adapt when things don’t go to plan
- Continuous improvement mindset

- Collaborative working style with a passion for learning and knowledge sharing
Your experience:
- 5+ years’ experience of enterprise Network Engineering and Operations
- CCNP Enterprise or Automation
- 2+ years’ experience with Python, Ansible, Jinja2, YAML, JSON and Git
- Extensive experience with NetBrain, Catalyst Center and ThousandEyes
- Working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience with Check Point Firewalls, F5 Load Balancers, Cisco Routing, Switching and Wireless
- Experience optimising workflows through automation
