Application Closing Date:  25th September 2024

Start Date: 5-day placements between January-March 2025

The programme

Our work experience programme at British Airways aims to inspire the next generation of talent – that’s you! - by giving you a taste of work and the aviation industry. Work experience can come in lots of different shapes and forms and is a useful stepping-stone between your education and you starting a career.

The Community Investment team looks after our charity partnership with Comic Relief, called Flying Start.  Since 2010, as a company British Airways have raised over £29 million through fundraising on the ground and collecting donations from our passengers in the air. In this placement, you will have the opportunity to support our colleagues around the business with all their fundraising needs. This could include organising resources for fundraisers or creating posters to promote events. You will also be involved with events management for our upcoming fundraising events, assisting with the preparation to ensure they run smoothly on the night.

Below are the dates that the Placements will be running. Please only submit an application if you are available to attend at least one of these weeks. Once the vacancy has closed, you will receive a form asking you to select which of the above weeks you can attend the work experience.

  • W/C 10th February
  • W/C 3rd March
  • W/C 17th March

Once the vacancy has closed, you will receive a form asking you to select which of the above weeks you can attend the work experience, and your application will be screened against those who have provided the same availability for the week/weeks you select.

About You

At British Airways, we look out for your potential and attitude, rather than your experience. We can provide the training and help you develop your skills and knowledge, but you need to have that get up and go, positive attitude that we’re looking for in the airline industry.

When we’re looking at applications for work experience, we want to see these qualities come through in your answers:

  • Professional and positive attitude and role model
  • Passionate about the airline and our business
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong organisation and prioritisation

What's in it for you?

Your journey continues…

Our Inspire Student Ambassador programme invites students who have completed work experience at British Airways to apply for the ambassador role and further develop their confidence, work readiness and employability skills.

After completing a summer training course, our ambassadors represent us at school activities and British Airways events. The transferable skills and knowledge developed from this programme gives students their second step into an aviation career.

With many of our former work experience students going on to progress to the ambassador programme and then full time employment with us, it’s the natural next step in your dream aviation career journey!
