About the team

The IAG Strategy Directorate is comprised of two teams, i) Strategic Partnerships and ii) Strategic Planning. These teams work closely together taking responsibility for defining the long-term strategic direction of the Group and defining key short/medium term activities required to achieve this. More specifically:

  • Develop the Group’s Corporate Strategy
  • Define the Group’s approach to Portfolio Management
  • Jointly with Operating Companies and Group Transformation Office define, develop and implement business transformation
  • Coordinate Group-wide initiatives and provide a platform for best practice sharing across Commercial and Customer areas
  • Develop Customer framework and measure relevant KPIs, e.g. brand fit, NPS and customer satisfaction
  • Define and coordinate Group’s Partnership Strategy
  • Adjudicate trade-offs at a Group level, ensure initiatives maximise value for the Group (e.g. Distribution strategy, Atlantic Joint Business and other major alliances, network overlaps and displacement).
  • Take a Group-wide view using benchmark comparisons that identify opportunities and improvements (e.g. Finance and Business Plan review, network and fleet planning)
  • Support Operating Companies with specific initiatives as they flow through the Group governance process

The Directorate is made up of a diverse set of passionate, talented airline professionals, who are focused on driving results, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and most important of all, team players.

Purpose of the role
  • Define and articulate strategic recommendations for decision-taking to the senior management, related to business transformation, network and fleet strategy, operational model definition, etc
  • Lead in-depth data analysis, including market/industry trends, business model optimization and benchmarking, to help build business cases for core strategic questions
  • Learn from a unique exposure experience to the senior management team, and leverage an opportunity to learn from and contribute to other airline functions
Accountabilities
  • Perform financial analysis for exploring strategic options, including financial metric analysis, competitive analysis and risk assessment
  • Support Group optimisation initiatives, such as the Group business plan, long term fleet planning, network & partnerships development, distribution strategy
  • Develop end to end documents for decision-making by the IAG Management Committee and Board, including the preparation and review of Board papers
  • Support functional communities across IAG operating companies, with best practice forums and analytical insights
  • Complete other ad hoc tasks to support the IAG Strategy management
Required skills & experience
  • Degree on Engineering/Science or Business Administration/ Economy
  • Previous work experience in management consultancy or in strategy / business development function (i.e. focus on business case definition and long-term view such as Network, Fleet, Alliances, Transformation, Customer)
  • Ability to build presentations with a cohesive storyline and summarise key findings
  • Proven ability to present to senior stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong interpersonal and persuasion skills, with high levels of maturity
  • Willingness to travel and work in multicultural environment
  • Excellent English written and spoken
  • Aviation experience helpful, but it is not required
  • Financial modelling experience preferred but not necessary
