The role:
Senior Strategy Manager
What is the right size and shape for the future British Airways? How should we adapt our business model to changes in the competitive landscape? What opportunities do we have to transform the profitability of key business units? Working collaboratively across the business, it is the role of the Strategy team to tackle these types of fundamental questions. The answers are key to defining the strategic direction of the company, outlined in BA’s multi-year business plan.
As a Senior Strategy Manager, you will lead a variety of strategic projects, ranging from in-depth evaluations that develop over several months to quick-turnaround analysis in response to emerging market developments. Some initiatives will involve building full business cases, while others will require focused insight, such as responding to competitor activity. You will work closely with teams across the business and have regular opportunities to engage with the British Airways Management Committee, as well as senior stakeholders across IAG.
The role reports to the Director of Strategy.
What You’ll Do
- Lead cross-functional strategic projects on behalf of the Director of Strategy, delivering insights and recommendations to the British Airways Management Committee.
- Conduct detailed industry and competitor analysis, including market forecasts, product evaluations, and financial benchmarking.
- Coordinate British Airways’ business planning cycle in collaboration with IAG Strategy and BA Finance, ensuring alignment across the airline.
- Identify under-performing areas of the business model and develop evidence-based proposals for turnaround or exit.
- Develop high-quality presentations and briefing materials to support decision-making at executive and board levels.
- Provide rapid, data-driven responses to key market developments and support strategic governance through input into Board and Committee papers
What You’ll Bring to British Airways
- Clear thinking with a strong understanding of airline economics and the commercial drivers of performance.
- Outstanding analytical ability, with a sharp eye for identifying trends and opportunities.
- The credibility and communication skills to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across departments.
- A collaborative mindset, working flexibly across teams to meet challenging deadlines and deliver results.
- A natural curiosity and drive to question the status quo and deliver meaningful business impact.
Your Experience:
- Highly analytical and numerical with a numerate degree or proven aptitude in a similar role. Previous work experience, either Strategy, Commercial or Financial roles within the Airline Industry, or Management Consulting, Corporate Strategy or Banking
- Capable of preparing and delivering well-structured, clear, impactful presentations, to audiences up to executive level
- Ability to work cross functionally, in an open and collegiate manner, with colleagues at all levels of the organisation
- An inquisitive, tenacious approach to problem solving, showing initiative and determination, with an ability to quickly get to grips with new subject matter
- Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the aviation industry, with a good understanding of the markets in which BA operates, its customers and competitors.
- Prior experience of financial modelling / financial analysis
