A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

Since then, British Airways has gone on to deliver game-changing achievements. First we broke the record for the fastest transatlantic flight with Concorde. Then we became the very first airline to introduce fully lie-flat seats on board.

It was our exceptional engineering teams that brought these pioneering and original ideas to life.

This is your chance to join one of the most diverse and innovative departments at British Airways, at a time when we’re re-imagining the way we fly the skies.

The role: Storage & Distribution Supervisor

Storage and Distribution is the life blood of BA Engineering, ensuring the flow of materials into the company from hundreds of suppliers and through internal logistics to hangars and terminal areas to enable our Engineers to maintain our aircraft.

We are looking for supervisors to lead our teams in our materials distribution organisation, where all materials are inspected, receipted, and distributed to our stores network. By planning and coordinating the different functions on the shift, the supervisor ensures control and visibility of materials, providing vital information to the engineering operation and our inventory management teams. Control, adherence to process and data accuracy are key to success.

Delivering parts to aircraft AOG overseas and liaising with our 24hr desk to rapidly move materials for aircraft maintenance to allow on time departures at Heathrow and Gatwick is an everyday part of the job. This role is critical to the success of the engineering and airline operation.

Looking after the health & safety, wellbeing, and development of a team of up to 40, the supervisor plays a vital role in making S&D a great place to work where we look after our colleagues and help them to achieve their career aspirations.

In return for keeping our fleet safe at the forefront of the sector you’ll receive great rewards and plenty of scope to develop your engineering supervisory skills to progress your career.

What you’ll do:

  • It’s a unique role, no single shift is the same, you will be key to motivate your team to deliver operational excellence. Coaching and developing your team whilst driving engagement and communicating updates on the local and wider business performance and unleashing their true potential.
  • To meet the needs of our customers you will balance daily resource levels, prioritise and allocate the activities of colleagues within your team. Monitor operational performance to ensure customers’ needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Alongside this, you will lead and support continuous improvement initiatives that seek to improve the operation and reduce waste.
  • You will also support our people and the department to achieve optimal performance through confidently adhering to all corporate policies and guides when managing those colleagues within your team.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Customer focussed with a good commercial acumen to effectively manage the link of supply and demand within the technical directorate.
  • Can make tough decisions and think of innovative solutions.
  • Clear and articulate communicator.

Your experience:

  • Experience of being a Team Leader or Supervisor.
  • Strong decision-making capabilities to lead the team and make operational decisions.
  • Able to coach and develop your team.
  • Ideally some experience in storage and distribution, but team leading skills are the key to this role.
  • Knowledge in SAP beneficial.
  • Hold a full UK driving licence ‘Category B’ for manual transmission vehicles, with no more than three penalty points.
  • Able to obtain an Airside Pass and Airside driving permit.
  • Must be able to work shifts.

What we offer:

As an airline, we never want to stand still. The same goes for our people.

We’re committed to upskilling our engineers and providing professional development training so you can progress in your area of expertise. That way, you’ll attain the highest levels of professional achievement as we continue to invest in new technology, equipment, and aircraft.

Training modules are offered through self-study courses, or structured learning programmes, and delivered at our state-of-the-art Learning Academy at London Heathrow.

When you work in an engineering role at British Airways, you’ll be joining a high-performance culture. It’s a time-pressured environment too, but the challenges here are exciting and diverse, and you’ll be part of projects you won’t find anywhere else. That’s what keeps our exceptional colleagues inspired to do their best work. We also offer fantastic rewards, including great staff travel benefits.
