The role: Storage and Distribution Operations Manager (6 to 12 months Secondment/ 6 to 12 Months Fixed Term Contract)
The Storage & Distribution team is part of BA Engineering and is the critical link between Supply Chain and the maintenance organisation, moving approx. 700,000 parts per annum worldwide.
This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced Operations managers within the S&D team to gain an understanding of the role prior to a permanent recruitment campaign.
Your role will be to lead the Storage and Distribution teams on the engineering base which encompasses 3 stores facilities and numerous tool compounds where high value aircraft spares and tools are receipted, stored and issued to enable aircraft maintenance.
It is a 24hr, 365 days a year operation run by a team of 50 colleagues across 4 shifts, each led by an experienced supervisor.
We work in a highly regulated business where it is vital that processes and procedures are followed to keep people safe and information accurate to enable the timely flow of materials across the network for aircraft maintenance.
We are looking to transform the S&D team over the next few years by rebuilding capacity, embracing new technology, taking on new tasks and finding ways to continuously improve. This will require someone who can engage with colleagues, embracing and developing their ideas to deliver better ways of working.
What you’ll do:
- Empowers the operational teams to deliver to the service level agreements whilst maintain relationships with external stakeholders.
- Accountable for reporting on operational performance to the Storage & Distribution Manager and Supply Chain Stakeholders.
- Responsible for the compliant storage and transportation of Aircraft components / tools by adhering to legislative directives.
- Responsible for the adherence to full compliance of Health and Safety, Airworthiness, Quality, Customs regulations, competition law, Waste Management and Environmental regulation.
- Representative at local LBUF and key to maintaining open and transparent relationships with trade union colleagues.
- Accountable to finance for the accurate auditing of all inventory within the stores, ensure total costs remain within budgeted levels.
- Maintain a high level of availability for Vending and kitting, ensuring our customers can self-serve from these locations.
- Control of tooling and equipment within the supply module.

- Operational management experience in an industrial environment is desirable.
- Proven leadership record and experience in managing a team.
- Experienced in operational management with internal and external stakeholders.
- Lead the team setting direction and objectives, driving engagement by role modelling leadership and brand behaviours
- Accountable for the management of all turnaround times to contract for the provision of all aircraft spares provided under the Flying Hours program.
- Ensures all direct reports do not go overdue for all Health Surveillance, Mandatory Learning and Read & Signs.
- Create an environment with a focus on learning, training and coaching with the ability to learn and develop from mistakes. Ability to identify talent and create a pipeline to inspire, retain and motivate future leaders.
- Empowers the team to produce ways to continuously improve
Desirable Qualifications:
- HND level education or equivalent experience (desirable).
- Qualifications relevant to supply chain, inventory, or logistics (desirable).
- Sound understanding of the overall engineering operation and interdependencies of departments within.
