The role:
Principal Enterprise Architect
Join our forward-thinking Architecture & Engineering team at British Airways as a Principal Enterprise Architect, where you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and governing our strategic enterprise architecture. This is an exciting opportunity to influence the future of our technology landscape and drive change across one of the world’s most iconic airlines.
What you’ll do:
Define and evolve a cohesive enterprise architecture strategy aligned with British Airways' business goals and objectives.
Lead the development of innovative and effective solutions to complex business challenges using a range of methods, tools, and artefacts.
Ensure architectural integrity and alignment across existing systems and capabilities, identifying opportunities for continual improvement and innovation.
Oversee the governance of architectural standards, processes, and controls, ensuring all technology decisions meet internal policies and external regulations.
Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders to balance technical feasibility with strategic fit, cost, and delivery timelines.
Build strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring solutions meet BA Digital standards and strategic needs.
Communicate complex architectural concepts in a clear and engaging way to a variety of stakeholders.
Provide thought leadership and mentoring to other architects, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
Proven expertise in developing enterprise-level architecture across multiple domains (business, data, applications, technology).
Strong ability to communicate, influence, and lead at all levels of the organisation, including senior stakeholders and strategic partners.
In-depth knowledge of modern architectural and deployment patterns including SOA, microservices, and event-driven models.
A confident decision-maker with a talent for resolving complex issues and navigating ambiguity with agility and innovation.
Passion for industry trends, with the ability to translate emerging technologies into practical and effective solutions.
Your experience:
Significant experience working within established architectural frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman).
Demonstrated success managing large-scale architectural change within complex organisations.
Strong background in stakeholder engagement, vendor management, and architectural governance.
Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
