Material Controller

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Material Controller in the Aircraft Components Inventory Team responsible for the forecasting and stock definition of any component owned by British Airways. This is an incredibly varied role involving working collaboratively with all our internal stakeholders as well as multiple external suppliers globally. This role is a pivotal role for the material planning function within the Commercial and Supply Chain team..

The Material Controller for Aircraft Components is responsible for interrogating demand signals and converting them into consumption forecast, delivering a stock proposal across all the maintenance plants. You will also need to be able to work collaboratively with Data and Analytics, Expendables, Heavy Maintenance and Planning. You will need strong data management, project management and communication skills. Technical knowledge of any of the aircraft that we operate would also be an advantage as would previous supply chain experience.

What you’ll do:

  • Actively manage and develop team members.
  • Agree and measure challenging targets, achieving these through process improvement, working across team boundaries and within a self-learning culture.
  • Ensuring compliance with Engineering Policy, Statutory Airworthiness requirements, Safety Standards, Company Standing Instructions and Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Manage the repair and overhaul of material within internal workshops and subcontracted suppliers.
  • Manage budgets ensuring total cost of ownership.
  • Plan and manage the material requirements for Aircraft and Programmes modifications.
  • Ensure all quotes, scrap and exchanges are actioned in the Service Centre teams as well as actioning of planned orders and purchase orders.
  • Be the focal within the Commercial & Supply Chain organisation for the ownership & escalation of all critical/AOG material issues.
  • Evaluate potential suppliers and take responsibility for subsequent sourcing decisions.
  • Maintain the contractual arrangements that exist with suppliers, seeking opportunities to reduce complexity, reduce costs and improve services for your category.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Proven procurement experience.
  • Proven inventory management experience.
  • Demonstrable ability to identify root cause issues and deliver effective solutions
  • Coaching & interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate effective presentation, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Long term problem solving.
  • IT and SAP literacy, and particularly MRP.
  • Customer focus.
  • Ability to manage spend within budget.
  • Innovative and adaptable to the management of change.

Your experience:

  • Formal business related qualification to HNC / HND or equivalent experience.
