Purpose of the role
  • Establishing, developing and documenting a new compliance Group internal control framework for specific focus areas, by supporting the compliance areas within the Group, and complying with UK recent requirements for large organisations.

  • Maintenance and monitoring of the compliance Group internal control environment including its documentation within the Group GRC Application.

  • Assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency of the compliance Group internal control environment, identifying areas for improvement, such as gaps in the framework or control weakness.

  • Continual improvement of Group-wide compliance internal control framework through reviews of controls alongside process owners and supporting them in the design and implementation of new/updated controls.

  • Driving best practice across the Group and helping to streamline and automate the Compliance control framework across different operating companies.

  • Monitoring Group-wide effectiveness levels for internal controls within the Group GRC Application.

  • Reporting to Senior Management on the state of their internal control environment, including effectiveness levels, status of open/overdue deficiencies raised against the existing controls, and internal control projects / initiatives.

  • Liaise with Internal / External Audit to support audit activities and provide guidance on existing control environment.

  • Support management and process owners to remediate deficiencies identified in the compliance Group-wide internal control framework, as well as local control framework through yearly internal/external audits.

Accountabilities
  • Support Process Owners and Control Owners and local internal control functions in the review of Compliance processes across the compliance Group wide internal control framework, including the implementation of improvements and updates to the existing documentation. 

  • Support management in the adoption of new(amended) controls and corrective actions for identified deficiencies, through control design/redesign and first implementations across the compliance Group wide internal control framework.

  • Increase awareness of the compliance Group wide internal control framework and emphasise importance of a strong control environment by communicating internal control best practices and delivering training as required.

  • Report to key stakeholders the status of internal control matters, including scope, regulations, reviews, consultations, deficiency remediations and other internal controls KPIs, as well as existing projects.

  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide relevant information for audit activities.
  • Monitor and manage the Group GRC application by actioning updates to the framework’s information, granting access, and providing status as well as training to end users, to drive increased control compliance.
Required skills & experience
  • Qualified lawyer, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or similar legal, compliance or auditing qualification or IT qualifications.

  • Strong UK regulatory knowledge and risk management expertise.

  • Relevant experience in external/internal audit or internal controls/risk/regulatory/compliance management functions.

  • Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken). Spanish speaking skills beneficial.

  • Process understanding and documentation.

  • Ability to identify and assess compliance risks and design mitigating controls.

  • Good understanding of risk management principles (desirable).

  • Strong analytical, influencing, and written communication skills.

  • An excellent team player able to adapt to various working styles and environments.

  • Creative thinking and ability to analyse and suggest solutions of the business issues, including use of technology.

  • Ability to operate in a multi-national and multi-cultural environment (desirable).

  • Experience working in a compliance, risk, regulatory functions would be an advantage.

  • Experience working in a finance, non-financial reporting function would be an advantage (not essential).

  • Experience designing, developing, and documenting control frameworks and processes within.

  • Experience in automation of manual processes/workflows will be an advantage.

  • Knowledge of SAP and/or Governance Risk Control (GRC) applications (desirable).

  • Ability and willingness for travel, likely to be no more than 15% of time.
