The role: Functional Lead

We are embarking on one of the most ambitious transformation programmes driven by People team—redesigning how we deliver HR services and elevate the colleague experience at British Airways. This isn’t just a system change; it’s a people-first reinvention of our HR function, enabled by Oracle Fusion

We are looking for a skilled and delivery-focused Oracle HCM Cloud Functional Lead to join our HCM transformation team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the hands-on design, configuration, testing, and deployment of Oracle HCM Fusion solutions. You will ensure that system capabilities are effectively aligned with HR business objectives, driving successful adoption and operational readiness across your functional area. 

What you’ll do:

As part of this team, you’ll help shape how we attract, support, and develop our biggest asset - our people—ensuring every experience reflects our values, supports our strategy, and empowers our colleagues to thrive. 

As a Functional Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring that the functionality of the new HCM system aligns with the strategic and operational needs of the business across your assigned functional scope. You will partner with Global Process Owners, SMEs, and the wider Implementation Team to oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of the Oracle Fusion modules within your assigned remit. 

This role is a key member of the HCM transformation team, you will be responsible for ensuring that the functionality of the new HCM system aligns with the strategic and operational needs of the business across your assigned functional scope.  

You will lead configuration design workshops for new technology implementations, conducting gap analysis and solution design sessions to address HR business needs. Your role includes managing user functional testing processes and designing training sessions to ensure smooth system transitions and user adoption. 

Working closely with HR stakeholders, you will translate complex business requirements into detailed functional specifications and system configurations. You will collaborate with technical teams on data migration, system integrations, security protocols, and reporting solutions whilst facilitating cross-functional communication to ensure project alignment. 

Your responsibilities encompass developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation including business process flows, system design specifications, test plans, and user training materials. You will manage project deliverables, resource planning, status reporting, and implement risk management processes to identify and mitigate potential challenges. 

You will stay current with Oracle Cloud HCM roadmap updates and quarterly releases, providing strategic advice on adoption of new features and system enhancements whilst driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimise HR processes and system performance. 

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Strong understanding of HCM business processes and best practices, with relevant experience in HR, IT, or business operations. 
  • Hands-on familiarity with Oracle HCM applications, including setup, configuration, and support (certification is a plus). 
  • Proven ability to gather and translate business requirements into effective system specifications and solutions. 
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects and driving change in dynamic, fast-paced environments. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. 
  • Skilled in leading without direct authority, using strong collaboration and influencing techniques. 
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills and a focus on continuous improvement. 
  • Detail-oriented and highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes. 

Your experience:

Oracle HCM Cloud implementations experience in complex environment is required, with previous experience as a functional lead on large-scale HR transformation projects and demonstrated success in managing teams and stakeholder relationships and driving user adoption.
