The Role: Data Scientist – Ops Excellence
Join our dynamic Operations team at British Airways as a Data Scientist – Ops Excellence, where you will play a key role in leveraging data-driven models and analytics to enhance operational decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of a fast-paced environment, developing innovative solutions that drive efficiency and performance.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement quantitative models and data products to tackle key business challenges.
- Apply predictive (ML, AI) and prescriptive analytics at scale to support digital tools in a production environment.
- Create new metrics, reports, and dashboards that leverage historical, live, and predictive data.
- Extract and integrate data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights for digital tools.
- Become a subject matter expert on data integrity and pipelines, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand complex business processes and develop digital tools to support them.
- Identify and structure ill-defined business problems, shaping analytical projects to address key priorities.
- Manage a portfolio of projects within an agile product team, focusing on delivering value quickly.
- Clearly communicate technical insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Influence decision-makers with data-driven recommendations that impact BA’s operational strategy.
- Stay at the forefront of data science advancements, continuously improving methodologies and technologies.
What You’ll Bring to British Airways:
- A numerate and analytical mindset with a strong passion for data-driven problem-solving.
- Proactive approach with a can-do attitude and the ability to adapt in a fast-moving environment.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with an ability to influence diverse stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, action-oriented, and comfortable making data-backed decisions.
- Ability to stay resilient under pressure, demonstrating flexibility in dynamic situations.
Your Experience:
- Strong Python skills (required) and experience with other programming languages (preferred).
- Proficiency in SQL, including the ability to write well-structured queries and prototype new metrics.
- Advanced analytical capabilities, with expertise in data science, machine learning, and operational research techniques.
- Experience developing and deploying models in a production environment.
- A numerate degree with a strong focus on data science, analytics, or operational research, or equivalent professional experience.
