The role: Customs and Logistics Compliance Manager

To deliver an outstanding logistics solutions which enables the Maintenance operation. You will be responsible for ensuring that our worldwide shipping agents and BA own logistics movements are delivering key materials on schedule to plan and in accordance with all rules and regulations, including but not limited to BA / DfT&I / HMRC regulations. You are responsible for the seamless integration of BA, its 3rd party MROs and our service providers to ensure timely delivery of materials to meet all operational, planned and ad hoc requirements.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for ensuring logistics service providers (including internal) deliver timely movement of engineering material, meeting the operational, quality and financial requirements of BA’s maintenance operation.
  • Responsible for timely and compliant resolution of the issues relating to priority goods movements including ; customs clearance, export controls and trade sanctions, dangerous goods certification
  • Works within procedures owned by the manager(s) responsible for customs and logistics compliance . Accountable for compliance where a decision is made to vary.
  • Provides feedback relating to procedures and master data to the manager(s) responsible for customs and logistics compliance to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Provides status updates and ETA of material movements to key stakeholders, Strives to improve the timeliness and accuracy of such information, using IT where feasible.
  • Establishes and leverages relationships with key suppliers and stakeholders for the betterment of performance.
  • Works closely with the manager responsible for logistics contracts to ensure a holistic approach to the management of the logistics providers.
  • Works within the logistics budget, Identifies opportunities to reduce cost whilst maintaining of improving service level.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Extensive experience working in an international logistics operation, as a provider of customer (aviation industry experience desirable but not essential).
  • Considerable experience of working autonomously and managing competing priorities
  • Experience using Continuous Improvement processes to improve business performance
  • Considerable experience working in a fast-moving operational environment.
  • An appropriate supply chain or proven operational management experience

Skills:

  • Familiarity with the documentation required to enable goods to cross international boarders compliantly.
  • Expert at rapidly resolving issues relating to incomplete or inaccurate documentation
  • A track record of effective Supplier management.
  • Able to make informed trade-offs between different modes of transport, e.g. air vs. road, speed vs certainty, vs cost.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Demonstratable capabilities for working in a time critical operational environment (where minutes are critical)
  • Experience importing into a range of Europe countries (desirable)
