Work Experience Placement - Engineering (Glasgow)

Duration: 5 Days

Work Experience Placement - Glasgow Engineering

Our BAMG (British Airways Maintenance Glasgow) engineering teams carry out a wide range of maintenance tasks on all areas of the aircraft (Wings, Engines, Gears, Tail, Holds, Cabin and Avionics) This can be something small as touching up paint to changing a large landing gear. We also have our own Repair Team and workshop, alongside our support teams such as Planning, Technical, Quality too.  You will get involved within all of these departments to give you a taste of what is it like to work in Engineering for a global airline. Apply now for a 5-day placement between January and March!

Our Inspire Student Ambassador Programme invites students who have completed Work Experience Placements at British Airways to apply for the Ambassador role and further develop their confidence, work readiness and employability skills.

After completing a summer training course, our ambassadors represent us at school activities and British Airways events. The transferable skills and knowledge developed from this programme gives students gives students their second step into an aviation career.

With many of our former work experience students going on to progress to the ambassador programme and then to full time employment us, its the natural next step in your dream aviation career journey!

Applying for a placement

The British Airways Work Experience Programme is aimed at full time students, either at school or college.

To apply for work experience, you must be:

  • Year 10/S4 or above
  • Have a valid passport
  • In full time education in school or college (not university)

You can live anywhere in the UK to apply for work experience, however this in-person placement will be held at British Airways Maintenance Glasgow. Please ensure if you are successful in your application, that you are willing to travel to Glasgow for the duration of your placement.

Recruitment Process

  • Step 1: Register for our student platform Speedbird-Z - https://britishairways.connectr.co.uk/inspire
  • Step 2: Explore which area of British Airways you’d like to gain an insight into (do your research and speak to our mentors!)
  • Step 3: Complete the ‘Intro to….’ task for Engineering. Here is the link: Apply for Engineering Work Experience - Work Experience at BA - Modules - British Airways - Connectr.
  • Step 4: Apply via the British Airways careers website 
  • Step 5: You must upload your project from the task outlined on the Engineering module on Speedbird-z, as part of your application under the 'supporting files' tab.
  • Step 5: We will review all applications for eligibility, and let you know via email if you have been successful and confirm next steps and dates of placement. 

Please note, you can only apply for one programme, so choose the area you are most excited to learn more about. You cannot complete more than one work experience placement.

Top Tip: We are looking for applications that show enthusiasm towards the industry!

Before applying for this placement you must complete the pre learning project on Speedbird-Z and attach the required project to your application. Please follow the steps under the recruitment section to complete this.

Please also note that if you are successful in your application for the Work Experience, you will be required to provide a school consent letter to permit your absence from your school/ college. We strongly recommend asking your teacher if they will provide this consent before applying!
