The role:

As a key member of the Operations team, the Ground Operations Risk, Compliance & Readiness Manager provides expertise and support to the NP (Nominated Person) Ground Operations, LGW Airport Manager and Outstations Manager to ensure oversight of safety, security, operational risk, and compliance across our ground operations. In addition to investigating incidents and conducting audit/assurance activity, the post holder will analyse trends and proactively address these, produce management information and communications, and work with stakeholders and suppliers to mitigate risk and promote a just culture across our operations. The role also leads on business resilience, cross-cutting operational change projects and operational readiness activity e.g. for new destination start-ups, new supplier contracts and charters.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate the departmental approach to safety risk management and compliance oversight, ensuring training compliance and champion the Integrated Safety Management System within Ground Operations.
  • Produce the Ground Operations content for monthly Safety Advisory Groups and quarterly Safety & Compliance Review Board, ensuring accuracy of data, reliability of performance indicators, trend analysis, risk mitigation and appropriate commentary.
  • Plan and conduct, with Ground Operations colleagues, regular checks/inspections at London Gatwick and outstations to monitor and advise on compliance and ground safety performance.
  • Coordinate and respond to Ground Operations safety and security report investigation actions, supporting and coaching the Ground Operations team, and ensuring thorough investigation and closure in-line with agreed timescales.
  • Manage and review the Station Operational Compliance Check (eSOCC) process and question bank, challenging the Ground Operations management team to ensure that meaningful checks are being undertaken, to suitable frequency, with findings being appropriately addressed.
  • Represent BA Euroflyer at relevant British Airways ground safety and compliance meetings (such as Ground Operations Standards Group, De-icing Steering Group, etc.).
  • Review and challenge existing processes and procedures where these drive unnecessary complexity, risk or cost into the BA Euroflyer operation, and influencing internal/external stakeholders in implementing change.
  • Support the Ground Operations management team in ensuring compliance with mandatory training to ensure compliance with BA Euroflyer standards.
  • Lead planning and preparation of Ground Operations processes for wet lease operations, ensuring stations are appropriately briefed and prepared to minimise operational, safety and compliance risks.
  • Working with British Airways and other IAG carriers/oneworld partners, as well as external service providers, to identify operational opportunities and cost synergies through alignment of standards and processes.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Strong written and spoken communication skills with ability to present information clearly to others, including non-native English speakers.
  • Able to influence effectively to ensure business needs are met.
  • Confident in challenging established processes and ways of working.
  • Able to quickly form collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Structured and organised with the ability to coordinate and influence multiple stakeholders
  • A flexible and ‘hands –on’ approach to the role and supporting the other areas of the operation as required.
  • Able and willing to support the business and operation outside of normal working hours when required, and to form part of an on-call roster.
  • Hold valid passport with the ability to travel to locations throughout Europe.

Your experience:
