The role:

Workshop Mechanic

The Aircraft Workshop Services team, are looking for dynamic proactive Workshop Mechanics to work in the Fleet Support Facility, or the Power plant Support Facility, to thrive among our ever changing business demands and to provide Engineering Support to our Customers, and ultimately the BA Operation. Your role would be to perform maintenance, component repairs and fabricate solutions under the supervision of Workshop Technicians, mostly within the Workshop Facility based at the Engineering Base at Heathrow Airport.

The Fleet Support Facility (FSF) is an outstanding and bespoke workshop environment, where the team come together to fabricate inventive and complex repair solutions to maintain BA’s aircraft to the highest standard. Are you up to the challenge?

PLEASE NOTE: We have multiple vacancies. Some are positions are Mon-Fri core working hours (typically 7am-3pm), while other vacancies are Shift based, working a 4-on / 4-off 12hr Day Shift rota.

You must already possess the right to Live/Work in the UK – this role is NOT open to Visa Sponsorship.

What you’ll do:

  • Under supervision, perform servicing and maintenance tasks as advised on aircraft or components as appropriate
  • Driving and operation of vehicles, including mechanical handling, lifting equipment and extreme work platforms, to the limit of permits held
  • Maintain a safe working environment through adherence to quality, health and safety and housekeeping standards
  • Carry out required IT and documentary transactions
  • Support the delivery of departmental and directorate objective

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Ability to comprehend technical publications and engineering procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude, demonstrates airmanship, 3 months recent practical engineering experience. For internal candidates this would be supported by the relevant Mechanic sections of the Engineers logbook
  • Good written & verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, capable of working with minimal direction and as part of a team
  • Prioritisation, planning and organisation
  • Problem solving and acting on own initiative
  • Working to deadlines, company standards and values
  • Demonstrates and contributes to a good health and safety culture
  • Proficient with safety management and compliance systems
  • IT literate

Your experience:

You should possess working experience in some of the following skills:

  • Composite Materials – e.g. fabrication and repair of composite components, dry lay-up / Resin wet lay-ups etc…
  • Sheet Metal fabrication – e.g. bending, riveting, welding, heat treating etc
  • Working in Machine Workshop environment – e.g. using Machining equipment such as C&C, Jig Bore, Lathes etc.
  • General Workshop/Hand Skills – e.g. performing simple metalwork tasks, installed/removing Bearings, drilling out and replacing Bushes and/or sheered Fasteners
  • Valid full UK driving licence (or equivalent) (desirable)
  • You must have at least 12 months proven experience in aircraft maintenance. (essential)
  • Ability to hold airport restricted zone access (essential for Terminal based role)
