The role:

Quality and Risk Manager (Flight Operations)

Flight Operations is at the forefront of delivering a safe and secure worldwide operation with a fleet of  240+ aircraft. Safety and Risk is at the heart of everything we do to support the British Airways brand .

What you’ll do:

  • Lead the research into, and identification of, aviation safety risk in Flight Operations 
  • Develop and manage effective risk action plans using the primary elements of Communication, Training, Technology, and Policy.
  • Collate and aggregate data sources to support risk identification and management, including FDM, safety reports, audit, LOQE, and EBT data.
  • Prepare analysis, reports, and presentations to support safety governance meetings within flight operations and the wider management system structure.
  • Manage effective and timely closure of actions from safety, risk, and governance meetings.
  • Seek to continuously improve data sources and quality.
  • Ensure that the requirements of the Management System Manual (MSM) are discharged within Flight Operations.
  • Take ownership of the Flight Operations Management Manual (FOMM), ensuring alignment with the MSM, and that local procedures pertinent to aviation safety are recorded and applied.
  • Develop and manage KPIs pertinent to safety management performance in Flight Operations 
  • Establish and maintain a close collaborative relationship with Corporate Safety and Security to ensure alignment of strategies and objectives. 
  • Lead the oversight of delegated functions pertinent to aviation safety including, IFCE, Global Operations, and Ground Operations. 
  • Lead a team of Flight Safety Officers to manage a strategic programme of Safety Promotion and communication. 
  • Leverage the capabilities of Ai2 to continuously improve the quality of data and insights available to flight operations and the wider management system.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Strong ability to balance strategic thinking, creativity, planning, project and process management, operations and administrative execution with exceptional communications capabilities and judgment​.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret large data sets​.
  • Ability to work at pace in an ambiguous environment, good with process, with a bias towards execution​.
  • Constructively challenges when required on best practice, and the ability to influence at all levels​.
  • Internal/External stakeholder management ​
  • Achieving consensus 
  • Open and honest when engaging with others to work towards a common shared vision. ​
  • I’m strategically minded and able to identify and articulate new ideas clearly always looking for ways to do things better. ​

Your experience:

  • Previous commercial pilot experience (Desirable)​
  • Experienced in Tableau or other data analytic tools (desirable)
  • Knowledge of FDM programmes (desirable)
