Our work experience placements are 5 days long and are designed for students in year 10 and above


Our base in Cardiff covers a variety of aspects of Engineering. From interiors to maintenance, the team ensures that our fleet of over 300 aircraft is safe and ready to fly.

British Airways Maintenance Cardiff

British Airways Maintenance Cardiff is our purpose-built maintenance facility, known in the industry as a 'centre of innovation excellence'. Your placement will give you a unique and insightful experience of engineering. Located next to Cardiff Airport, we exclusively undertake heavy maintenance of British Airways wide-bodied, long-haul aircraft. Our hangar is a three bay and two ’nose-in’ facility operation that can maintain five aircraft at any time, providing world-leading downtimes and quality.

You’ll get to shadow highly skilled specialist engineers and technicians who love what they do. This is your chance to experience an engineering environment like no other, working on the Boeing 777, the iconic Boeing 747 and the next-generation Boeing 787, known as the Dreamliner.

British Airways Interior Engineering

Established in 1996, British Airways Interior Engineering is the repair and overhaul facility for all our seating products including all the World Traveller, Business, First Class and Crew seats. It also repairs and maintains crucial safety items such as evacuation systems slides, life jackets, survival packs and baby infant cots. And that’s not all. The team also repairs interior components including overhead bins, seats, toilet doors, baby changing tables, toilet compartments and door linings.

During this placement, you’ll shadow our highly skilled specialist engineers and technicians. You’ll also get an insight into the importance of the cabin for our customers, and how we maintain it in line with our brand.

BA Avionics Engineering

Established in 1993 and located in the heart of the South Wales valleys, our avionic component maintenance facility has 142,000 sq. ft of floor space and employs highly skilled people. We maintain a broad range of electrical, electronic and mechanical components including airframe, accessories and flight deck aircraft components. We bring a culture of continuous improvement to repair that puts quality and safety at the centre of everything we do.

On this placement, you’ll get to shadow specialist engineers and technicians who take real pride in their work. You’ll love working in one of the world’s most advanced avionic repair centres and gaining valuable insights into how our components are maintained.
