Job Description

It’s an exciting time to be at British Airways. We’re celebrating our centenary year throughout 2019 – and making an unprecedented investment in new aircraft and every aspect of the customer experience.

If you’re made of the same qualities as us, you could soon be part of the next chapter of our story.  Together as one team, we’re connecting Britain with the world and the world to Britain like no one else.

Would you like to shape the future of British Airways as it celebrates its centenary in developing cutting edge aircraft monitoring solutions?

A rare opportunity has arisen to join the Flight Data Recording team in Engineering as a Programmer Analyst.  British Airways uses its Flight Data to ensure its aircraft are operated in a safe and efficient manner.  Do you have the skills to help British Airways on-time operation by creating data driven solutions?

We are looking for someone to join a small and dynamic team to develop and maintain the British Airways Flight Data Recording Software Systems.

We are developing a web-based dashboard to give engineers access to flight data and prognostic alerts.  Our solution utilises Docker, Lambda, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL and machine learning techniques to provide value to the business.  Our team also supports a variety of software tools in the group used to create aircraft airborne software solutions.

You should be familiar with AWS, Python, .NET, JavaScript, Angular, SQL and NoSQL databases or similar technologies.

You will have a degree or equivalent in a related discipline and be capable of working with binary data.  You should have a grounding in STEM subjects, have a familiarity with theory of flight.  You will furthermore demonstrate a natural curiosity and be prepared to generate and experiment with potential solutions. Our Programmer Analysts have a key role adding clarity to investigations.  You will need to be comfortable with managing multiple tasks concurrently to different targets.

The successful candidate should have demonstrated an ability to solve problems using data.  Your collaboration with Technical Engineers troubleshooting aircraft issues will result in you creating data driven solutions to their problems.
