Chief Pilot (Boeing) 24 month Fixed Term Contract

The role 

Are you ready to lead a team of high performing pilots? British Airways is seeking an experienced and dynamic Chief Pilot (Boeing)  to lead and inspire our team of approximately 2000 pilots, on a Fixed Term Basis for 24 months.

The successful postholder will ensure a strong culture that maintains the highest levels of health, safety, and security in a role that drives visible levels of pilot engagement and recognition, through effective line management.

The role leads the delivery of the Flight Operations fleet strategy, with a focus on the development and maintenance of a competent and motivated workforce. Ensuring the highest levels of inclusivness is a key component of this responsibility. You will champion a team that represents the best of British Airways, promoting  Flight Operations’ strategy , 'Leading the Operation, Supporting Colleagues and Leveraging Technology'.

Key duties 

  • Manage Fleet Line Managers and the Policy & Delivery Manager as assigned, providing effective leadership and guidance. 
  • Represent the Fleets on the Flight Operations Standards Group (FOSG), ensuring a strong relationship with technical and training teams to ensure alignment with industry standards. 
  • Take responsibility for the operational and workforce management of pilots, ensuring adherence to business and performance requirements. 
  • Monitor and enhance operational standards to drive continuous improvement. 
  • Champion and oversee pilot welfare and wellbeing initiatives, prioritising the health and happiness of the flight crew. 
  • Represent the Fleet team at the Peer Assistance Network (PAN) steering group, providing management support as required to enhance industry collaboration. 
  • Possess the authority to withdraw the operations certificates of flight crew on Airbus/Boeing fleets who do not meet professional or technical competency standards, ensuring regulatory compliance. 
  • Oversee the training and development of fleet/line managers on their respective fleets, fostering continuous learning and skill enhancement. 
  • Lead Flight Operations support during Critical Incident Management Team (CMT) callouts as required, demonstrating agility and responsiveness in emergency situations. 

Qualifications / experience 

  • Airline transport pilot’s licence holder  
  • Proven people management experience  
  • Experience or working within a regulatory environment.
  • Appropriate skills and expertise acceptable to the CAA for a flight technical role
