Want to apply your advanced analytics skills to complex, real life, multi-million-pound decisions? Then this is the programme for you!
14th January 2019
We’re a fast-moving, complex business, so you’ll be working on complex problems from day one – getting straight into tasks like identifying punctuality improvements or investigating how customer satisfaction impacts on revenue. The aim is providing actionable insight throughout projects, allowing benefits to be realised faster.
All airlines are complex, which means that the industry provides one of the most varied and exciting places for ambitious analytics professionals like you to work. Problems like determining the optimal mix of aircraft to buy for the next 20 years, or how to improve overbooking set up, require you to generate creative solutions, apply advanced analytical techniques and exploit value from current and new data sources.
We’ll look to you to provide the analytics input into the projects on our business plan. These projects cover all aspects of the airline from Operations to Network Planning to Commercial and have a significant impact on the profitability of our company by increasing revenue or reducing costs.
Each team within Central Analytics is focused on a particular part of the airline, and you will be placed in one of these teams. Projects on the business plan tend to impact more than one area, as the team covers the whole of the airline. We often work together to generate best for British Airways solutions. Beyond this, we also work with colleagues in other airlines with IAG and alliance partners.
Development & progression
Alongside all the skills and experience you’ll learn on the job, you’ll receive training to develop your analytical, consultancy and business skills, which are highly valued and respected across our business. We run skill bytes and knowledge-sharing sessions for the whole community to build these skills and increase your airline industry expertise.
As you gain more knowledge and understanding of your role, you’ll enjoy opportunities to shape and lead your own projects and work with more autonomy. In the year following the programme, you’ll be able to apply for more senior roles within Central Analytics. You will move within the team to expand your business knowledge, which will help you work cross-functionally and deliver the best for British Airways.
We are looking for a minimum of a 2:1 degree, or equivalent, in any subject (either achieved or expected.) Preferred qualifications include BSc, MSc or PhD with significant Operational Research, Business Analytics, Applied Statistics and/or Advanced Analytics content. The role requires a high level of numeracy skills as well an ability to think logically and practically when dealing with complex issues. You will need to have the right to live and work full-time in the UK indefinitely without sponsorship from British Airways.
Central Analytics supports the majority of airline functions and has teams working closely with Commercial, Operations, Revenue Management, People and Strategy. We shape and contribute to the most significant change initiatives, and drive better decisions through independent analytical excellence and business insight. There is a great team ethos, a culture of harnessing talent, and a reputation for developing high performers who rise to senior management roles across the broader business.
What our people say
What I’ve found most surprising is how graduates are treated within the company. I didn’t expect my colleagues to have as much trust and belief in the work we do. BA seems to have a culture about how graduates will shape the future. A lot of companies may say it but I think BA actually believes it. To see how other past graduates have progressed in BA really does confirm that.”
