We operate in a dynamic, complex, unpredictable sector. This is your opportunity to develop your analytical skills and your understanding of how our business operates, via a series of rotational placements with one of two teams: Data Science or Commercial Analytics. You’ll unlock the insight in continuously expanding volumes of data, and influence multi-million-pound decisions that impact the whole airline from customer experience to commercial strategy.
Ultimately, in an ever-evolving digital landscape, we want to set the trends, not follow them. You can be a part of that. Whichever team you join, you can expect to gain some impressive skills and knowledge. As you continue to build your knowledge, you’ll be introduced to more complex projects, start to influence the direction of your projects, and work more independently. At the end of the Programme, you'll be encouraged to move to a more senior consultancy/analytics role within British Airways.

Programme highlights
Airlines are complex, everchanging and data rich, which means that the industry provides one of the most varied and interesting places for analytics professionals to work. Problems like determining the optimal mix of aircraft to buy for the next 20 years, or how to improve overbooking set up, require you to generate creative solutions, apply advanced analytical techniques and exploit value from current and new data sources.
You will apply your analytical skills to influence real life multi-million pound decisions from day one, making a tangible impact on the business as your recommendations, tools and models drive key business decisions.
You will provide the analytics input into the projects on our business plan. These projects cover all aspects of the airline from Operations to Network Planning to Commercial and have a big impact on the profitability of our company by increasing revenue or reducing costs. Because of this, you will have the opportunity to work across a variety of business functions, and form close working relationships with decision makers and leaders within the business.
Across the programme, you will rotate through these three key roles on a project by project basis to get a breadth of experience:
- Data Science Consultant
- Data Engineer
- Data Visualisation Consultant

Programme highlights
Immerse yourself in the commercial side of our business. Take on a series of rotational placements that support our commercial teams, bringing your insights to drive our performance and decision-making on a huge range of live commercial issues.
You'll often find yourself tackling an urgent analysis piece to help provide direction on a real commercial issue. One that’ll most likely need a decision by the end of the day. This is the reality of the industry. Fast-paced, dynamic and full of unique challenges.
But what sets our Graduate Programme apart from other analytics-focused ones is that it offers genuine opportunities to drive our commercial performance. You’ll be providing senior leaders with all the necessary metrics, intuitive data visualisations and commercial, data-driven insights they need to make informed decisions. Decisions that have a widespread impact everywhere from pricing of flights to marketing communications and corporate client deals.
As you progress through your placements you’ll collaborate with, and learn from, both graduates and professional colleagues, including senior management. This gives you every opportunity to cultivate relationships, make connections and build a career as ambitious as you are.
About you
We are looking for a minimum of a 2:2 degree, or equivalent (either achieved or expected) in any subject that has involved numbers and analysis. Numerical competence and an inquisitive nature, you’ll be able to identify trends, patterns and insights from data, and have a talent for communicating complex ideas. You will need to have the right to live and work full-time in the UK indefinitely without sponsorship from British Airways.
The teams
Analytics are pivotal to the success of our business. The Commercial Analytics scheme provides focussed support to Commercial, and the Data Science scheme provides airline wide support. We shape and contribute to the most significant change initiatives and drive better decisions through independent analytical excellence and business insight. There is a great team ethos, a culture of harnessing talent, and a reputation for developing high performers who rise to Senior Management roles across the broader business.
What our people say
It is surprisingly simple to find yourself talking to heads of department and managers daily in a friendly environment. Everyone I have talked to at British Airways will always pay full attention to what you are saying, regardless of whether the conversation is work-related or personal.
