The role:

Enterprise Data Architect

Within the IAG Cargo Digital and Information function, the Enterprise Data Architect will play a pivotal role in shaping the data strategy, roadmap and target architecture for IAG Cargo. Reporting to the Head of Data, Insights & Operational Research, this position holds significant responsibility within the digital and information management team, ensuring our data solutions and business processes are fully aligned and contribute to the vision and strategic direction of the organisation.

The successful candidate will join the team at an exciting time. IAG Cargo are in the early stages of a major programme of work to modernise our data infrastructure, tooling and processes as we migrate from an on-premise to a cloud native environment and the Enterprise Data Architect will be essential to the success of the transformation.

Using your strong communication skills combined with your breadth of industry and information management expertise, you will drive consistent decision making across a broad variety of projects in order to achieve the target data architecture that you have developed. Your primary responsibility will be to develop effective solutions that deliver a coherent, reusable, reliable data architecture. The data architecture will enable the business to transform, maintain strategic alignment and meet individual project requirements.

Working closely with business owners and the wider Digital and Information team you will influence the end-to-end data supply chain across IAG Cargo. You will also support business data owners with data governance activities to ensure alignment to industry standards, regulatory obligations and minimise data risk. In collaboration with project delivery teams you will suggest technical approaches and resources, and contribute insights into the data needs of projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Define the enterprise data architecture to align with the overarching business objectives and establish a clear technical vision for data management.
  • Contribute to shaping the enterprise IT capabilities by strategically defining information and data architecture, ensuring it aligns with the business strategy.
  • Design and implement data integration strategies to enable seamless data flow and interoperability across different systems, applications, and platforms within the enterprise architecture.
  • Identify potential enhancements or introductions of business and data capabilities within the future state architecture.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to articulate and document a comprehensive data strategy that supports the overarching business strategy.
  • Work in tandem with other architects to develop and uphold strategic roadmaps, principles, standards, and reference architectures across all architecture domains.
  • Ensure project designs adhere to the established data architecture while meeting both functional and non-functional requirements; actively resolve any architectural issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Document various data architecture options and effectively communicate the practical implications of architectural decisions, issues, and plans to senior business, IT, and change management stakeholders.
  • Support the evaluation and implementation of advanced Data Architecture tools and methodologies to enhance the data capabilities of IAG Cargo.
  • Implement and publish the cargo data model, ensuring alignment best practice and industry standards (e.g. IATA One-Record)
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to architecture and IT team members regarding data-related concepts and practices.

  • Fluent written and spoken English is essential, Spanish language is an advantage.
  • Capable of adjusting priorities quickly as needed, maintaining effectiveness in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate

Your experience:

  • Ten or more years practical experience in data architecture, solution design, and implementation of large-scale enterprise data transformation programmes
  • Extensive experience in transitioning from on-premise to cloud architectures, with expertise in platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services.
  • Practical experience in Architecture Governance and serving as a Technical Design Authority, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and best practices.
  • Experience in identifying business and IT needs and the ability to reason logically and creatively to provide options and recommendations to resolve problems.
  • Experience in full data life cycle from inception to decommission, including aspects such as data quality management, data cataloging and data lineage.
  • Experience at providing technical leadership to project resources to meet project deadlines and ensure project objectives are met.
